Relocating to Miami can be difficult, especially from abroad. One of the most challenging aspects is finding the right school for your children. The Pinecrest, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and South Miami neighborhoods are known for their prestigious schools, ranging from K-12. Each of the schools listed below incorporate language learning in their curriculum. Some are designed for native speakers, while others are designed to help students learn a new language. Elementary
Coconut Grove Elementary- This school offers the French International Studies program, open to both native and non-native speakers. Students are provided with daily one-hour instruction in French, with a Support Hour on Wednesdays. An additional hour is provided after school in the content areas; Mathematics, Science, History and Geography in grades 3, 4 and 5 except for Wednesdays. All the classes are taught in the French Language and provide our students with the opportunity to become fluently bilingual or trilingual. The school also offers a Spanish language program which is incorporated into the curriculum offered during the school day.
Sunset Elementary- Sunset Elementary offers three languages as part of their International Studies Magnet Program, including Spanish, German and French. These students receive the official curriculum from that country for a total of two and a half hours daily. These programs are taught by language teachers that are native to that country. The course program includes Spanish, German, and French language instruction in reading, language arts, math, science and social studies. Students in this program have an extra hour of school compared to students not in the program.
Gulliver Prep- At this Private school, the Primary experience includes Creative Curriculum®, featuring exploration and discovery as a way of learning. They also offer Nature Explore Outdoor Classrooms®, which promotes learning in outdoor spaces, Discovery Lab experience for early coding and programming in technology, a focus on social-emotional development, seasonal concerts and the Primary School Art Fair, and an introduction to the Spanish language
Middle
Carver Middle School- Carver offers an International Education Magnet Program in French, German or Spanish which requires no previous language proficiency. They also have an International Studies Program in French, German, Spanish and Italian which requires a language proficiency exam.
ISCHS- The French program is the only program accredited from 6th to 12th grade by the French Ministry of National Education in Miami. ISCHS is a partner member of AEFE (Agency for French education abroad). Math, French, History and Geography are all taught in the French language. The school also has Italian and Spanish programs where students will be eligible for a dual-diploma from the country of language study.
High School (IB)
Coral Gables High School- Carver Middle School feeds into Coral Gables International Baccalaureate Program. Although a bilingual program is not advertised at this school, they do offer language classes in French, Italian, Spanish-Beginning, Intermediate, and Native Fluency.
ISPA- The International Studies Preparatory Academy is listed as one of Miami’s Premier Public High Schools. As a bilingual high school, ISPA offers intensive language programs in Italian, Spanish and French. Their International Education program does not require Mastery Proficiency, and offers French and Italian. The International Studies program offers French, Italian and Spanish and requires Mastery Proficiency upon application.
Coral Reef High School- The International Baccalaureate program at Coral Reef offers French, Spanish and German language tracks. Carver Middle School also feeds into this IB Program.
Gulliver Prep- This school provides an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with language tracks in French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese ​. Beyond this, the school prides itself in the EDGE Program at the Upper School Miller Campus, experiential learning to prepare students for life beyond school, an emphasis on giving back to the local and global communities, renowned, award-winning visual and performing arts programs and signature Academic Programs in architecture, biomedical sciences, digital mass media, engineering, international business and entrepreneurship, and international diplomacy and legal studies.
Carrollton- Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is the only Catholic, all-girls Montessori-3 through Grade 12 college preparatory school in the State of Florida. The program offers the IB program, and language tracks in Mandarin, French, and Spanish.
